Catch of the Day - In mid-winter, bald eagles congregate at locks and dams on the Mississippi River to fish in the open waters below the dams. The winter of 2014 was a very cold winter in the upper Midwest and there were plenty of hungry eagles. This image was shot on a very cold afternoon (sub-zero temperatures) at Lock and Dam #14 near LeClaire, Iowa. It is one of the best locations for photographing eagles while they are fishing.
