Crystal Lake is located south of Ouray just off the Million Day Highway (Highway 550) in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. Red Mountain is a set of three peaks that get their name from the reddish iron ore rocks that cover the surface and are the only peaks in the area with such an appearance. The ghost town mining camp of Red Mountain is located at the foot of the Red Mountains.
